10th European Congress on Biotechnology

Biotechnological Challenges in the New Millennium
Madrid, Spain, July 8-11, 2001

The European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB) has recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Since its foundation in 1978 in Interlaken (Switzerland) the EFB has helped to transform the profile of Biotechnology in Europe, and its potential relies to a great extent on the commitment of scientists working in the field of biotechnology in Europe. This year, the EFB has reformed its statutes to be perceptive to all European scientists interested in a particular field of biotechnology.

Until today the EFB has organised nine European Congresses on Biotechnology (ECBs). ECBs are this Federation's main scientific events, congregating more than 1500 scientists from all over Europe and abroad every two years.

The first ECB of the new millennium - ECB10 - is organised by the Spanish Society of Biotechnology (SEBIOT) and will take place in Madrid (Spain), July 8 -11, 2001, providing the groundwork for European biotechnologists to meet and present their outstanding research to a growing Europe without borders.

The ECB10 will cover the present and foresee the future of all fields of knowledge and application relating to biotechnology in Europe, from microbes to humans; from fermentors to DANN arrays; thereby connecting and convening active specialists from Academia and Industry in a unique European enterprise.

ECB10 is conceived for the participation of all European biotechnologists from industry and academia, to facilitate exchange of knowledge and ideas and contribute to a better understanding and perception of biotechnology by the general public in Europe.

This well known and solidly established Congress in Europe will consist of more than 60 symposia that will cover the research and application of biotechnology in
