Worldwide revolution in longevity and quality of life - Opportunities, challenges and responses
Paris, France, 18 - 20 May 1998
The International Council for Global Health Progress (ICGHP) is organizing its third international congress on the theme of Longevity and Quality of life, to take place in Paris, France, from 18 to 20 May 1998. The congress is being organized under the auspices of Mr. Jacques Chirac, President of France, Mr. Jacques Santer, President of the European Commission, and Mr. Frederico Mayor, Director-General of UNESCO.
The event will include symposia, round-table discussions and workshops addressing the following:
- A global approach to the demographic, epidemiological and economic evolution of longevity;
- Future therapeutics and the progress of research in the treatment of pathologies related to ageing;
- The practical aspects of caring for the elderly;
- The necessary development of care for the elderly as it becomes increasingly based on technology;
- A constructive dialogue with economic, social and medical policy-makers in the field of ageing.
Mrs. Edith Cresson, Commissioner responsible for research, innovation, education, training and youth, and Mr. Umberto Scapagnini, Member of the European Parliament are expected to participate in a round-table debate on "Political responsibilities in the revolution in longevity".
The official languages of the congress are English and French. Abstracts related to longevity and quality of life should be submitted by 1 March 1998 at the latest.
