Training Programme "Environmental Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal: New Developments"

Manchester, 21 April to 30 May 1997

The sixth training programme in Environmental Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal to be offered on a collaborative basis by the Universities of Manchester and Bradford, will be held from 21 April to 30 May 1997 at the Institute for Development Policy and Management (IDPM).

The 1997 programme has several new features. The coverage of the programme has been extended to include, the integration of environmental and socio-economic assessment in the overall appraisal of projects, the application of strategic forms of environmental assessment of broader policy measures such as structural adjustment programmes, and more detailed consideration of the economic valuation of environmental impacts.

The other significant development is that the IDPM at Manchester University has now become the third partner in the Collaborative Programme, alongside the EIA Centre at the University of Manchester and the Development and Project Planning Centre at the University of Bradford. The Collaborative Programme combines the expertise of the three centres in the areas of project appraisal and management, environmental impact assessment, and economic analysis and environmental policy, in the context of developing countries, and represents one of the largest international concentrations of research, training and consultancy expertise in the field of environmental analysis and policy.
