Abstract

Changes in science (especially in terms of commodification and increased media attention in the context of New Public Management) and in the media (in particular an economic crisis in the process of digitization) will lead to a far-reaching transformation of the forms, structures and power relations in science communication between science, science PR and journalism. This paper outlines some of these changes and integrates previous recommendations and current issues of two working groups of the German Academies of Sciences on this topic. The authors conclude that analysis of the opportunities and risks of continuing digitization of knowledge communication in society should be established as a permanent field of technology assessment.
